At M. Steinert & Sons
Today, more than 98 percent of the world’s active concert pianists — over 2,000 artists — hold the distinguished title of Steinway Artist. Each owns a Steinway grand and chooses to perform exclusively on Steinway pianos. Notably, none are compensated for this commitment; their allegiance stems solely from the instrument's unparalleled tone, touch, and responsiveness.
As the authorized Steinway & Sons representative for New England, M. Steinert & Sons supports hundreds of concerts and cultural events each year with world-class instruments and technical expertise.
Internationally renowned performers and esteemed local artists alike rely on our team to provide concert-ready pianos and comprehensive technical services. Our master concert technicians oversee every detail — from assisting with instrument selection, to coordinating secure transportation, to meticulously preparing and servicing the piano at the venue — ensuring each performance meets the highest artistic standard.
These services are available to concert halls, performing arts organizations, academic institutions, houses of worship, recital series, and private engagements throughout the region. RATES & FEES
BASIC FEE:
The basic fee to rent one of our Steinway concert grand pianos for up to 4 days of use includes a matching artist bench and a cover for the piano when it is not in use. Freight and tuning are not included in the basic fee and are quoted separately.

If the piano is needed for longer than 4 days, there is an additional charge of $250 per day. A rental may not exceed more than two weeks.
** The basic fee is reduced to a $400 administrative fee if the rental involves a Steinway Artist. In this case, the cost to rent a piano for an additional week is reduced to $750 per week.
CONCERT TUNING & SERVICE:
Concert Tuning (must be performed by a Steinert authorized technician) $300
Technician Stand By (during sound check, performance, etc.) $300 / hour
FREIGHT:
Freight to and from each venue is quoted on an individual basis. Factors such as distance, difficulty and timing of the move affect the cost. M. Steinert & Sons works with several local piano moving companies and does not allow unauthorized movers to handle or transport our concert instruments. Typical round trip cartage for a Steinway model D rental locally is $1,900 - $2,100. Round trip cartage for a model B rental locally is typically $1,600 - $1,800.
The following circumstances will increase the cost of freight:
- Stairs/steps, lift to a stage without a ramp, and tight turns
- Mileage and distance to the venue
- Specific, exact delivery or removal time instead of a 2-3 hour window
- Early morning, late night OR Sunday delivery/removal
