As Sanders Theatre celebrates its 150th anniversary, Harvard has welcomed a remarkable new voice to its historic stage: a Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand, recently delivered by M. Steinert & Sons.
What makes this story especially meaningful is the care behind the instrument. Choosing an exceptional concert grand is only the beginning. The right piano must be matched to the room, carefully prepared and refined, thoughtfully placed, and supported by expert technical care over many years.
That stewardship is what allows an instrument like this one to become part of the life of an institution; serving generations of students, faculty, visiting artists, and audiences.
Harvard’s Vijay Iyer described the new piano as a rare “unicorn that can do everything,” with power, finesse, subtlety, depth, and character all in one instrument.
Congratulations to the many people at Harvard whose expertise and care brought this piano to Sanders Theatre. We’re grateful to have played a part in its journey and look forward to hearing how its story continues.
