ABOUT THE ARTIST
14-year-old pianist Naomi Yamaguchi began her piano studies at the age of four. She made her orchestral debut at age 8 and gave her first solo recital at age 10. Since then, she has been invited to perform solo concerts for major institutions, including Detroit Institute of Arts, Consulate-General of Japan, Cranbrook Music Guild, Tuesday Musicale of Detroit, Pro Musica, and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies of the United States.
Naomi won her first piano competition at 6, and has since won prizes at the Kaufman International Youth Piano Competition in New York, San Jose International Piano Competition, MMTA Concerto and Solo competition. Her performances have been broadcast on WQXR’s Young Artists Showcase, and she was featured on NPR’s From the Top, recorded at Jordan Hall in Boston. Naomi is a scholarship recipient of the Chopin Foundation of the United States.
She has attended music festivals and master classes with Boris Berman, Hung-Kuan Chen, Joseph Kalichstein, Alexander Korsantia, Marina Lomazov, Julian Martin, John O’Connor, Matti Raekallio, Victor Rosenbaum, Nelita True, and Oxana Yablonskaya.
Naomi studies piano with Hitomi Koyama at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School where she also studies chamber music and takes Piano Seminar with A. Ramon Rivera.
She has performed in many benefit concerts and outreach programs in the community and received the Youth Recognition Award for her volunteer performances. In addition to her passion for the piano, she treasures time with her friends and brother, and loves playing the clarinet in her school band.
