Job Description

M. Steinert & Sons is currently seeking to fill a full-time Piano Technician position to work in our showrooms and with our customers.  As the world’s oldest independent Steinway dealer, you’ll join a company with over 160 years of dedication to musical quality.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled piano technician to have stable consistent work and eliminate the administrative burden of marketing, business development, scheduling, billing, and accounting.

Qualifications

M. Steinert & Sons’ pianos and customers require a very high standard of technical work and customer service- technicians must be self-motivated to deliver results while building a positive reputation and trust. Training is provided at Steinway & Sons’ CF Theodore Technical Academy as well as on-the-job.

Prior experience tuning and servicing pianos is required. Steinway & Sons, Boston, and Essex pianos are the primary focus. Prior knowledge of these brands’ specific technical needs would be beneficial. Customer service and interpersonal communication skills are highly valued, as you will be working alongside other technicians, salespeople, and interfacing with customers. Previous experience in retail and musical experience would be of value. Formal piano technical training (ie. North Bennett Street School or equivalent) education is a necessary qualification. and RPT status obtained or in progress is a must. Must be able to tune a piano quickly with a stable result. Aural and electronic tuning skills are both of value. Must show an aptitude for regulation and voicing. The ideal candidate will not shy away from warranty issues, or troubleshooting requests – must show resourcefulness in problem-solving, and value good communication.

Important: Travel to showrooms and customers throughout the Boston metro area is required – must have your own car.

Responsibilities

  • Tuning/prep for freshly uncrated pianos
  • Floor tunings for general showroom display
  • Sold piano prep
  • Complimentary tuning after delivery
  • Routine service visits to customers’ homes, churches, schools, etc.
  • Consultation with customers, on service intervals, additional work needed, humidity
    control, piano placement, etc.
  • Maintaining showroom humidifiers
  • Help with sales and piano selection
  • Consigned / trade-in piano prep – shop work
  • Player pianos – QRS, PianoDisc, Pianoforce, Spirio – training opportunities

Pay

Competitive pay structure based on technical work performed; includes Health and
hospitalization benefits, competitive rates on group dental and vision plans, paid vacation and
401K. Pay ranges between $65k-100K, variable based on work performed.
